- vowel/consonant
- vowel length (short, long, diphthong, schwa)
- vowel height (high, mid, low)
- vowel frontness (front, mid, back)
- vowel openness
- consonant type (stop, fricative, affricate, nasal, liquid,
biphonemic)
- place of articulation (labial, labio-dental, dental, alveolar,
palatal, velar, uvular)
- consonant voicing
